In most cases the reason for a transaction to be declined is because of:
1) The credit card number is incorrect; in other words typos
2) The expiration date is entered incorrectly
3) AVS failure
Further Explanation on AVS
What is the Address Verification System (AVS)?
The Address Verification System (AVS) is an advanced level of credit card security that is built in to the credit card processing networks to help thwart identity theft. When a user makes an online purchase with a credit card their billing address is required and the CID number. The house number portion and postal code of the billing address they enter is compared to the billing address on file for the card. If any combination of the address, Zip code or CID does not match then the transaction is declined.
Legitimate Declines are Common
If the address entered by you does not match the address on file with the card then the transaction will be declined. If something is misspelled or the you have moved then the address will not verify. In many cases this is merely because many customers get their mail at a po box and forget to use that address for the billing address.
In the event a card fails the only choice you have is verify your information on file with the card issuer and retry the order.
Another common misconception is when a customer calls the bank or verifies their account through other means they may see a hold on their account for the amount of the order even though our site declined the card.
This is because all is needed to charge a card is a valid card number and expiration date.
However we take additional steps to protect the customer such as AVS as described above.
Even if the card is a valid card number, a valid expiration date and has funds on it; it will be declined if it does pass the other checks.
These authorizations will drop off in a matter of days; and your order will not ship. If they are causing a hardship in any way please contact customer service so we may call your bank to have them removed.
If you continue to have problems contact us and we will help you resolve the problem.
